Ohioan Gun Manufacturer Spotlight

B5 Systems

B5 is located in Xenia, Ohio. The same place where the F6 tornado hit in 1974. That has nothing to do with B5 I just thought that was an interesting fact. B5 makes furniture, they are the OEM for the SOPMOD stock, even the ones marked LMT. B5 furniture is the largest competitor to Magpul as far as stocks and grips go. In the current year, B5 has many stock and grip options in their lineup, including reproductions of the Lone Star Ordnance grip, which is actually injection molded, unlike the one made by Onyx Arms, for which they charge 3.5x as much. The release of said grip caused Onyx Arms to mald. This will be elaborated on at a later date.

Silencers are a very wide and diverse topic, but this same thing applies to many topics, and just like those topics, most of your options suck.

Barrel Profile

An Incomprehensive Guide

Waste not want not. The original barrel profile for the AR-15 was called “pencil” profile. This utilized a .625 gas journal (the section of the barrel that the gas block locates on top of), and an otherwise nearly straight cut, being thickest at the gas journal. This was then replaced with the “Government” profile on the M16A2. Every AR-15 before this point was pencil profile. Government profile is the same as pencil profile until you reach the gas journal. It uses a .750 gas journal and essentially maintains this .750 diameter until the muzzle. The M4 Carbine introduced a new profile which is variously referred to as “Government” profile and “M4” profile. This was the same as a full length government barrel except for a special cut between the gas journal and muzzle, for attaching the M203 grenade launcher mount. The last profile in a military context is “SOCOM” profile. This is the same as an M4 profile barrel AFTER the gas journal. Before the gas journal it is significantly heavier. The thickness is on par with the thickest part of the taper that exists before the gas journal on government profile barrels. The only other note being that there are vertical reliefs in the side of the barrel behind the gas journal to create clearance for the M203 receiver.

On the commercial market the waters immediately become a murky piss color. Not very clear. But I will go over the relevant highlights. The first is the “SPR” profile barrel used in the Mk 12 rifle. This is most similar to a SOCOM barrel, but with 0 relief cuts in it whatsoever. The profile is .750 at the gas journal and does not get significantly lighter forward of that, and only gets heavier when moving to the rear. Criterion produces some AR barrels with a “CORE” profile, which utilizes a .625 gas journal, gradually getting thicker as you move towards the chamber. This is a true taper profile like you would have on a classic bolt action rifle. Daniel Defense’s “S2W” (Strength to Weight) profile is similar, although utilizing a .750 gas journal, getting thicker from there back. Faxon produces two of the lightest weight profiles on the market. One called “Pencil” (it isn't) and one called “Gunner”. These are honestly hardly different from one another. Their pencil profile is a .625 gas journal, and tapers down aggressively both forward and backwards of that point. The main difference is that the gunner profile has a full length gas journal. The pencil profile has a truncated gas journal that is only long enough to accommodate modern low profile gas blocks, it will not fit old style FSBs. The Gunner profile will.

Finally is Ballistic Advantage’s “Hanson” profile. This is almost perfectly straight cut, with a .750 gas journal. It is basically the same diameter for the entire length. They also make a .625 version for certain lengths. I will now include some helpful graphic that I am sure the xhtml file will not butcher and destroy. Please open this in a separate window to view at full size.

PSA Cancels the Sturmgewehr

Because of Woke.

January, SHOT show 2023, Palmetto State Armory shows off their acquisition of HMG and their STG-44. PSA apparently got ahold of HMG and asked them what the deal was, HMG replied that they were “ready to produce”, so PSA bought them out. Still they were planning on bringing out all 4 calibers. HMG announced that preorders (made over the past 7 years) would still ship. And they would be “Absolutely launching these later this year”. A year goes by, and PSA releases an announcement stating that their “initial production is getting off the line”. They said it took them some time to get the production line up and running, but the guns would be in buyer’s hands later in 2024, only 9 years behind schedule. Finally, October 2024 arrives and PSA puts out another announcement. “Unfortunately when we got this gun in our possession, we have discovered more issues than we anticipated to find, then while troubleshooting those issues we have discovered more issues.” They have shelved the gun, and it is not coming out. The statement from PSA paints a pretty clear picture, HMG was never going to get the gun working and they were just stalling for time while trying to figure out what to do, they had taken over a million dollars in preorders for a gun they could not make, and when PSA asked if they could do it, they just went “Oh yeah totally but only if we had some big strong factory to save us!”. Which then saddled PSA with a gun that didn’t work.

This type of thing simply does not work. The only reproduction WW2 gun I can think of that actually shipped units was the SMG (Smith Machine Group, not submachine gun you fucking tard) FG-42 reproduction. Those guns were basically hand made and cost the same as a 2015 Honda. They also don’t work right so write that down. All of these manufacturers can barely produce a decent AK and people genuinely expect them to produce guns from 80 years ago which used machine processes (like stamping) which can only be done on a massive scale. All of the other reproduction guns on the market like the DSA FALs or OOW BARs were built off of original parts kits so you know at least some of the gun was made correctly. PTR’s G3 clones are not only built on original G3 tooling from Portugal but originally used surplus G3 parts in their construction. And none of the previously listed guns are even known to run 100% anyways. Unless your gun is built from 75% original parts, by an autist, for $10,000, don’t expect some ancient piece of shit gun design to just work. Next time you see some tard online go “Man I wish they made new Dragunovs”, just think of this. You might surprise yourself.

Back in June 2015, The Firearm Blog posted an article stating that there is a “StG 44 in 5.56 and 7.62×39 On The Way”. That STG-44 reproduction was announced by Hill and Mac Gunworks, or HMG. “It will use standard AR magazines and accept all standard semi-auto HK-style trigger packs. It’s due out later this year, pricing is TBD.” Well 2016 came and went, with HMG showing off the updated prototype not only in 5.56 and 7.62, but also in the original 8x33 and .300blk. The rifle was again shown at SHOT 2017, where they hoped the first production models would be rolling by April (only a year and a half behind schedule). August rolls around and HMG announces that the guns will be shipping by the end of the month. October 2018, HMG promises that THIS time its for real and the gun will be shipping March of the next year. They reinforced this claim in December. March rolls around and apparently “QC issues” were causing delays and they were waiting on new parts to arrive. In June they were still waiting on these parts. They then filed a lawsuit against their OEM. 2021 comes and goes with no word. 2022 as well. Then finally in 2023 everyone’s favorite poorfag gun manufacturer steps up to save the day.

The KNWGM Silencer Buyer’s Guide

Yeah, its a Silencer, not a Suppressor.

Lets get down to brass tacks. You are more likely to encounter a bad product than a good one. Silencers are no exception to this rule. Silencer companies leave their legacy products on the market and they continue to sell just on name alone, even when the performance is mediocre compared to offerings from current year. The market in 2024 is significantly better than the market even just 4 years ago. The shortening of NFA wait times will also cause the market to surge in reaction, so there will be even more devices on the way. This will not be an overview of every silencer or even every manufacturer on the market, this is just an overview of what YOU should buy, no need to concern yourself with all the devices you DON'T want. So just like every question with a definitive answer, this will be kind of boring. Otter Creek Labs is basically the first and last word in rifle-borne silencers. Their Polonium is a budget oriented silencer which outperforms devices that cost twice as much. The Polonium comes in 3 flavors, the Polonium, the Polonium-K (see Issue 9), and the Polonium-30. The Polonium-30 splits the difference in length between the other 2, and utilizes a .30 caliber bore. The Polonium utilizes a bore diameter sufficient for 6mm cartridges, so rounds like 6mm Creedmoor all the way down to .204 Ruger are totally fine to use. All of the devices in the Polonium range are essentially the gold standard for all AR based goofing. The Polonium-30 is NOT optimized for subsonic ammunition, the gas flows differently for supers and subs, so it works best on supersonic ammo. Anyways, the primary downsides to the Polonium series are high back pressure, which runs the gun harder (unless you adjust other parts to compensate), and heavier weight when compared to titanium silencers. Speaking of which, the Hydrogen series (Available in 6.5mm and .30 caliber bores, and in 3 lengths, Standard, Kurz, and Long) are 100% titanium, which makes them unsuitable for shorter barrels or very rapid fire. Titanium will soften much quicker than steel or inconel and will explode if subjected to pressure while sufficiently hot. OCL ran a 60 round magazine through a 4.5 inch AR affixed with a Hydrogen, blowing it up.

For rifles where full auto isn't a primary concern, and neither is the sparking (titanium silencers will throw sparks when fired), the Hydrogen series are highly effective. Bolt action rifles or ARs more suited to precision work or hunting would greatly benefit from their use. The Otter Creek Titanium (that's the name) is a .22lr silencer. 100% titanium construction, and very good sound performance. If you want a rimfire silencer for either rifle or pistol, buy one of these. There are very few reasons to deviate from these recommendations, reasons like “I'm looking to buy a silencer for my AK”, or “I need a silencer that I can attach directly to my A2 birdcage because I fell for the pin and weld meme”. There are devices out there that fit these criteria. But the best way to handle those situations is to not get yourself into them in the first pace. The only OTHER reason to deviate here is that you are a compulsive clooooner who needs the specific antiquated silencer that some rifle from 2003 used. If this is you then you had no reason to read this guide to begin with. Silencers CAN be a complex topic, but as long as you keep your weapon selection simple, like you should, your silencer selection can remain simple as well. I did not mention any pistol oriented silencers because that's a retarded rabbit hole to go down anyways. Save your time and your money. For a 5.56 AR just ask yourself which you value more, sound performance or length. If length, go with the Polonium-K, if not the Polonium. For a .300 AR either go with the Polonium-30 and be done with it, or try your luck with the Hydrogen 7.62s if you want better sound suppression or lighter weight or whatever else.

Introducing New Flavor: Gushing Granny Green Apple

I’m gonna start off tame here, baja blast might be one of the most popular alternate flavors of pop besides cherry or diet variants of coke and pepsi. After hearing all the hype for years and seeing all the memes, I decided to give it a shot after a bowling match back in high school. All this to say that it has the lasting impact of giving you fatal ass cancer. Just kidding but it does suck a lot. Its just worse than stock standard Mt. Dew in every way (OMG Fleetwood Mac Reference!?!?!?!).

This brought to mind how there are so many stupid flavors of pop out there. Who the fuck is out there fiending for hot Cheeto soda? What the hell? Cheetos fucking suck. Now we’ve dissolved in in Mt. Dew!! Only people with BMIs of like 50 or more should be attracted to that. It is America after all… Gingerbread pop isn’t as bad but still that turns the stomach for some reason and I feel like that might be shared by others. I don’t want to drink bread adjacent fluids.

Next is weird brand deals. What makes you think I would want to drink IShowSpeed flavored Prime? Apparently my Gen Alpha zoomer coomer pee pee poomer brother wants to drink it cause I found him drinking it the other day. There is also KSI flavored Prime according to him. I just love black guy flavored, 1600g of sugar laden “sports” “drink”.

Ranch soda ain’t that bad if you chug it tbqh…
